If you are stopped on a road rather than in a driveway or lot, get the vehicle as far off the travel lane as you safely can and turn on your hazard lights. On a highway shoulder, standing behind a guardrail or barrier is safer than sitting in the vehicle when there is somewhere safe to wait. Do not attempt to jack a car on a slope, on soft ground, or with traffic passing close to the working side of the vehicle.

Can you work on my car in the historic district?
Yes, though we may ask you to move it a short distance. A jack needs firm, level ground, and some of the older streets around The Green are cobbled or crowned enough that we would rather not lift a vehicle there.
I drove about a mile on the flat before I could pull over. Is the tire ruined?
Very possibly. Running on a deflated tire grinds the inner sidewall apart even when the outside still looks intact. We will inspect it, but be prepared for a replacement rather than a repair in that situation.
