Staying safe while you wait
If you are stopped on a road rather than in a driveway or lot, get the vehicle as far off the travel lane as you safely can and turn on your hazard lights. On a highway shoulder, standing behind a guardrail or barrier is safer than sitting in the vehicle when there is somewhere safe to wait. Do not attempt to jack a car on a slope, on soft ground, or with traffic passing close to the working side of the vehicle.
Bear mobile tire service questions
I found a flat in my driveway this morning. Should I inflate it and drive to a shop?
We would not recommend it. If the leak is fast enough to flatten a tire overnight, it can go down again in traffic. Leaving the car parked and having it serviced in the driveway is both safer and more likely to end in a repair rather than a replacement.
Do I need to be home for a driveway service call?
Not necessarily, as long as we can reach the vehicle and you have arranged for us to have whatever we need, including the wheel lock key if your vehicle uses locking lug nuts. Confirm the details when you call.
My tire keeps losing air slowly but I can't find a nail. What causes that?
Frequently it is the seal between the tire bead and the wheel, especially on older alloy wheels that have corroded. It can also be a leaking valve stem. Both require the tire to be dismounted to fix properly, which we can do at your location.
Can every puncture be repaired?
No. Whether a repair is appropriate depends on where the damage is, how large it is, and the condition of the tire. Punctures in the sidewall or shoulder are not repairable, and a tire that has been run flat usually is not either. We inspect first and tell you what we find.
